Looking back at yesterday’s post, I realize I omitted an important detail, which is that Sasha’s apartment (as of writing; they move soon) is on the fifth floor, and there is no elevator. I was able to muscle the bike up, but I was not taking it down again until I was actually leaving. So today was all on foot and on the subway.
The air conditioning in the living room doesn’t really work, so I was hot overnight, and by morning I was too hot to really want to get up, but I forced myself to. I didn’t end up being too touristy. In the morning I went and did my laundry and walked around the neighborhood for a bit. It’s a busy place, and it feels very lived-in in a way that I appreciate.
I was on my own for lunch, so I somewhat arbitrarily caught a train down to the Upper West Side and walked down Amsterdam Avenue. There are so many restaurants there, and they all looked really good. I picked one called Florentin and sat down. I took my time with the meal. I found my salad a bit boring (my fault completely, it was exactly as written on the menu), and I hadn’t had breakfast, so I ended up just eating a second course there.
I met up with Sasha again at a nearby flea market, and then we returned to their place. It was too hot for either of us to really want to go out, so we sat around talking until dinner, when we went to a nearby Indian place. After coming back, we shared some wine and talked some more.
